We initially thought having a doula was just a “nice to have,” but after our experience with Emily, we now see it as a necessity. My husband and I wanted someone to walk with us through the birth experience, support us with different positions, and help me have the most natural, unmedicated birth possible. Throughout pregnancy, Emily was incredibly knowledgeable, genuine, attentive, and responsive. I felt anxious and uncertain going into labor, but also confident because of the time I had spent preparing with her. When I called Emily to let her know I was in labor, she had attended two births in the previous two days and had been up all night, but she was immediately ready to come support us at the hospital.
During labor, Emily guided my husband on how to support me, provided counterpressure when the pain was intense, prayed for me, and helped me when I was uncertain about decisions. Giving birth without an epidural was incredibly intense, but I truly believe I was able to do it because I felt so safe and supported. Emily’s student, Ellie, was also there and was just as amazing and helpful throughout the experience. Shortly after giving birth, I told my husband, “Hiring Emily was the best money I have ever spent!”
Emily also came for a postpartum visit, where we appreciated processing the birth experience with her and looking through the notes she had taken during labor. I would 100% hire Emily again and cannot recommend her enough to anyone considering a doula.
