Aleah and Zach’s Birth Story

The day Malloryn was born, I woke up to do some prenatal yoga and was feeling tired because I didn’t sleep well the night before. I was upset that I hadn’t gone into labor yet. I made an appointment to see a chiropractor that day and right before I left the house, I had a very big contraction! They continued for the next few hours during my adjustment and also during a Covid test that I needed in order to go to the hospital.

I wasn’t ready to go to the hospital yet so I started to make myself some toast when the contractions got worse and I wasn’t able to continue. My husband walked in, saw me on the kitchen floor and he said “we are leaving right now!” When I got to the hospital, I was 8cm and I was so excited. But I still had 9 more hours of difficult labor. I spent most of my time in the tub. But after several hours, baby’s heart rate dropped, and I needed to move onto the bed.

Emily and Zack were an amazing team, comforting me, massaging me and keeping me hydrated. I reached 10cm after a few hours but my body was not ready to push. The contractions really slowed down which confused me. I tried pushing but to no avail. After a while, I was able to push with the guidance of the midwife, which made all the difference. The pushing went on a lot longer than I expected and I was more exhausted than I thought possible. But I had no choice so I kept going. The words of encouragement from everyone really helped. My baby’s head was stuck but she managed to turn herself around to the amazement of my midwife, and I was finally able to push her out!

Malloryn Grace was born at last! I needed stitches after from tearing, which was extremely painful but I was so relieved she was out. My husband and doula were an amazing team! And I can’t imagine my birth story without them.
